Idol Chatter - Someone's Going Home

Last night the six remaining Idols sang the songs of Carole King; tonight those same six Idols will face the music and of them will be unceremoniously kicked to the curb. Ryan just hinted that tonight's elimination will hold some sort of surprise--so if you didn't cast your vote for your favorite last night, then you may not be all too happy with tonight's results.

Before kicking off the usual elimination night festivities, Ryan gave some props to judge Steven Tyler who graces the cover of the current Rolling Stone magazine as well as has a story in this week's People magazine. Is it my imagination or has Idol pretty turned into shameless plug TV?

Well, hold that thought because Idol sunk to yet another new low as they rolled tape of a British-themed pre-William and Kate wedding party in honor of the aforementioned Brit's upcoming nuptials--which are set to start in about 4 hours.

Now that we have all of that tomfoolery out of the way it's time for the group sing which will feature a medley of Carole King penned ditty's including "Take Good Care of my Baby", "One Fine Day", "Go Away Little Girl", "It's Too Late"...seems there may be a theme here and I'm not talking about the common link being the writer. Do you think one of the two remaining female Idols is in trouble tonight? We'll have to keep watching (or rather, I will keep on watching) to find out what's up with the vote.

After the weekly Ford commercial, Ryan introduced last season's runner-up, Crystal Bowersox, to the stage to show the Idol wannabes how to woo the crowd. In case you're wondering, there is something noticeably different about the Crystal that millions of Idol fans grew to know and love last year...it's her grill! She got her snaggle tooth/teeth all fixed up and looks just dandy! Thankfully it didn't affect her singing voice or her ability to entertain the Idol audience.

At long last, it is time to find the person who's Idol ride ends tonight. The first Idol to learn their fate was Hailey. In a departure from past elimination shows from this season, we were treated to clips of the Idols performance from the last night, the judges comments (from last night), and Jimmy's (the producer) thoughts--he wonders if Hailey knows what kind of singer she wants to be which got a not-so-happy response from Hailey. But never fear, Hailey was safe and will sing again next week.

Scotty was next on the block and went through the same drill and was told to hang tight while Ryan invited Lauren to run the gauntlet. Like Scotty, Lauren was told to take a seat and wait while Casey stood on the stage under the glaring lights and relived last night's events. Casey made it three straight Idols to be told to hang on while the rest of the Idols are tortured by Ryan and the gang.

James took his turn on center stage and at long last we have a result...James is safe...the second such Idol (behind Hailey). Before James' behind could hit the couch cushion, Jacob made his way to Ryan's side and was refreshed on what went down last night--including that crazy outfit. Jacob was joined by the other four Idols who fate was still unknown...and before they could get comfortable standing next to Ryan, he sent Lauren back to the couches and left the three boys (Jacob, Scotty, and Casey) to wait out a performance by Bruno Mars to see which one has sung for your votes for the last time.

Back to the results...and Jacob is safe. It's down to Scotty and Casey....and the one going home is Casey. For the second time this season, Casey is sent packing by the Idol voters. I was bummed to hear Casey's name a second time, but the other Idols and judges looked even more bummed than me...and Scotty walked back to the couches looking like HE was the one sent home.

And just like that, we bid adieu to the very talented and quirky Casey Abrams. As he sang his way off the show, he made his way to the judges table, gave them hugs and kisses, worked his way through the crowd where he got up close and personal with his fans, and then ended his run on Idol with a group hug with his fellow Idol finalists.

Tune in next week when the five remaining Idols try to move one step closer to Idol immortality. Until then, I will continue watching TV so you don't have to...

Charlie
